Drawing at a Scare Festival

 18/10/2025

On the weekend I had gone back home to go to Tulley's Farm Shocktober Fest, which essentially is an event where there are lots of themed 'mazes' that had scare actors in they scare you. It is a TONNE of fun especially for a horror lover like myself, watching other people get scared is great and I LOVE the theming of everything and everyone's costumes. So, I had decided to bring my observational sketchbook because this was the perfect place to draw for my project.

It turned out to be a great idea because there was a lot of waiting time in the lines for the mazes, so I had plenty of time to draw my friends halloween makeup and any set dressing around the place.

At the end of the night I even drew one of the scare actors and gave the drawing to them. It was an amazing experience and it's a great feeling when a quick, throw away drawing I did excites someone.

Riso Workshop

 16/10/2025

Ceri ran a risk workshop where we all created A5 riso prints with three layers of colour. We could use previous artworks or quickly create new ones, but I used one of my zombie illustration and used the Lightbox to mark out the other layers on separate papers. We also had some spare space on the paper so I was allowed to make a couple of small risos, so I drew a quick zombie head and a clown.

This is what the different layers looked like. It was actually quite exciting not knowing what the prints were going to turnout like, but as I understand it there are programs and ways of planning it out a lot more if you wanted to.

We chose dark, medium and light colours so that they would layer nicely. I knew my zombie drawing would be the darkest colour and then I wanted to colour in the armour so that it would standout more, I also thought that adding more blood with a lighter colour would add more movement to my work which is what I love.

I really love the way it turned out and I am definitely going to experiment with it further. The process of riso was quite simple and using the printer was a lot easier than I thought it'd be (obviously I will need some practice before I remember it all).
Me and Helena have planned to do some riso prints together which I think will help both of us learn the process more.

Maptastic Workshop

 13/10/1025

We had an afternoon workshop that involved using a map to collage your research journey so far. We had access to lots of collage materials and some huge A1 maps of different places (not any places I've heard of).

Worksheet we were given

I don't really play around with collage a lot so I really use this workshop to play around with materials and have a bit of fun sticking stuff down. I themed my map around zombies and the dead, adding stuff like gravestones, blood, hands and feet. I even found a red pen that was a bit translucent and coloured in areas of the map to show that 'areas that had been infected by zombies'. I think I could expand on this idea and maybe use it later for the inside cover of my comic or some kind of outside storytelling.

Small Bits of Writing

 12/10/2025

I used some of Ceri's advice to start writing some stuff and get my head rolling about creating a narrative. So I started with writing out 5 endings to a zombie story and 5 beginnings. This was a fun exercise because it made me think about all of the zombie media that I have watched and think about how the stories pan out. I then wrote down some starting points that I could use later on and possible settings for a zombie story. These are small steps in my journey to start writing a narrative but they are necessary because I have never written a story before.

Final Comic and Printing

After a lot of InDesign and colour printing troubles, I was able to print a nice copy of the final product. I will need to print more to se...
