Comic Con Workshop (Day 1) IPP

DAY 1 - Workshop at 4pm

Me and Helena were recruited to help Adam and Phoebe run the comic workshop they were running at Portsmouth Comic Con. It was an amazing experience and I was able to witness lots of different illustrators selling work at tables. There was a room of comic artists and we had some great conversations about women in horror and how great zines are.
When it came to the workshop, the room was completely full and everyone was very engaged with the task. I found it hard to approach people and talk to them about there work but the others were naturals.

I was able to buy some comics, badges and zines and get an understanding of pricings at the con, it was interesting because a few of the things I bought the seller mentioned was being sold at a loss but they just wanted to spread there work.

All of the things I picked up.

Front Covers Ideas

Through the work we are doing for the Film Student Poster, I have been inspired to try using paper cuts to create a tunneling effect. This gives me an opportunity to try a new way of working and create a cover that doesn't look like the art inside, which is a call back to most comics having way more detailed covers than the art style of the comic.

So I started by doing some sketches and making a mock up.

Student Impact Awards IPP

Me and Helena got nominated for two Student Impact Awards, one on them was the Arts and Culture Impact Award and the other was the Student Achievement Impact Award. We had to attend a fancy dinner reception where they would announce the winners and hand out the awards. It was a very nice evening and we ended up winning the Student Achievement Impact Award!!!!!!!

Riso Printing - Multiples IPP

In a workshop a while back I experimented with making my zombie illustrations into risos. It got a lot of positive feedback so I finally decided to put the time into making them proper prints for a part of my multiples for the project.

I scanned in my zombies and used my IPad to create the riso layers. Digitally I was able to get a small idea of what they might look like for the final thing, but I was still guessing a bit. And then I printed the masters out and went to print them on the riso printer in open access.

I was originally going to print them in blue, orange and mint, but on review those colours arent a great fit for my horror brand. So, I changed it to red, mint and black, like the colours of old school 3D glasses in a cinema.

I then stamped the back with my socials, signature and edition number, so they are ready to sell!

Stamping them with my Insta handle, signature and edition number. And then packaging them in a sleeve to protect them.
