Starting Observational Drawing

 10/10/2025

Following Ceri's advice from the group tutorial I decided to start drawing from my everyday life. I had wanted to do this for a long time but have never go into the habit of taking a book everywhere, so this is the perfect opportunity to start. So the first thing I did was go down to the art shop and buy myself a tiny A6 book I would be able to fit in my pocket (or small bag).

Me and my friends had planned to go to a pub that night so I brought along my book. I had decided to use a brush pen in this book because I also want to practice with that, so basically I'm killing two bird with one stone.

Ceri had suggested I try and exaggerate features but I found that pretty hard because there is a lot of pressure to make your friends look good, especially when they know you are drawing them. But overall this was a lot of fun and I will continue this throughout my project.

Group Tutorial

 09/10/2025

For this group tutorial I brought along my attempts at 3 panel thumbnail sketches. Ceri gave me the idea to use post-it notes to do this as it might help me add panels between them later. (I quite like this idea). Also after expressing my want to start creating stories, she gave me some resources so I could get started such as a BBC Sounds Radio show that gives poets prompts. She also suggested writing down 5 endings to a zombie story and 5 beginnings, which I quite like because I've watched/played a LOT of zombie movies/games.

Ceri also suggested that I should draw people from life (at the pub or my friends at home) because I could turn them into zombies or exaggerate facial features as I please. So I am going to try and get in the habit of bringing around a small sketchbook everywhere (which is something I've wanted to do for a long time).

Library Visit

 06/10/2025

On Monday afternoon we had a scheduled library session with Simon. We basically had to chance to look at library books for some initial research on our projects. I looked at the graphic novel/comic section and found The Walking Dead, Peplum, It's Dark in London and The Horror, The Horror. I flicked through them and took some picture because I was very inspired by the styles and colours of the illustrations and I wanted to document them for later. I then went to the film/movie section to look for books about zombies in film, as there is a lot of historical and cultural reasons why zombies appear in the media.

Final Comic and Printing

After a lot of InDesign and colour printing troubles, I was able to print a nice copy of the final product. I will need to print more to se...
